Wildlife Officer at the County Administrative Board of Kronoberg
Are you a person engaged in forests, ungulates, and other wildlife, and do you want to contribute to sustainable wildlife management in Kronoberg? This position is located at the Nature Conservation Unit, where we are nineteen colleagues working with wildlife management, invasive alien species, nature supervision and assessment, area protection, and action programs for endangered species.
To strengthen our dedicated team, we are now looking for a fourth wildlife officer who wants to contribute to our work for viable wildlife populations in balance with other interests. The position is a fixed-term employment until December 2026, with a possibility of extension.
Job Responsibilities
As a wildlife officer with us, you will have a varied assignment within wildlife management and in the interaction between people. You will primarily perform office work, but fieldwork may also be relevant. You work with a socially important task while having the opportunity for personal development through training and collaboration with experts in various fields.
You will work with:
- Administration related to the county's moose and red deer management and wildlife management areas
- Inventory of ungulates and predators
- Preventing, inventorying, and quality-assuring wildlife damage to crops and livestock and compensations for this
- Processing cases according to hunting legislation and the Environmental Code, such as permits for protective hunting and wildlife enclosures, as well as exemptions from dog bans
- Planning and conducting meetings for the wildlife management delegation
- Training and information meetings regarding wildlife management in the county
The work also includes creating dialogue with stakeholders such as citizens, landowners, hunters, interest organizations, and media. Some tasks may involve evening work. You may also have the opportunity to take on other developing tasks within the unit.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone who has:
- Wildlife management education, forestry/game management education, or a scientific education at the university/college level (at least three years) with a focus on nature conservation, biology, ecology, or other relevant education that we assess as equivalent
- Good ability to express yourself in Swedish, both orally and in writing
- Driver's license (B)
- Good knowledge of the Office suite
It is an advantage if you also have:
- Experience in wildlife management
- Hunting license
- Knowledge of wildlife ecology and population biology
- Knowledge of hunting legislation and wildlife damage regulations
- Experience in processing within state or municipal administration
- Experience in contact with media and various interest groups
- Knowledge in GIS (geographic information systems) and are accustomed to a digital working method
- Education from SLU Wildlife Damage Centre
